Varney HO Scale Model Trains
Gordon Varney, the person who gave birth to Varney Scale Models in 1936 was probably the most important person for his contribution to the HO scale world. He was one of the pioneers in the HO scale field.
Varney was someone who brought HO scale into consideration for model railroaders. He propagated the HO scale cause and was responsible for the design of a motor which would suit the HO scale. What was required was a motor which had the appropriate size and was reliable enough for powering the locomotives for this scale. Another of his major contributions was the explanation of the design of this motor and ideas for model railroad enthusiasts. Design ideas, construction ideas and layout ideas, he had supplied them all. And his innovation is what drove the company to better results and profits.
Catalogs from Varney contained all this information, which proved to be a big asset for hobbyists. The company was sold in 1960 and even today, there are many companies, like Bowser Manufacturing and Life Like, who have used his products and ideas and reformed or improved them to generate better model train locomotives.
